Sony encourage films on PSP
News - Memory Stick pack revealed
With UMD movie sales steady but unexceptional, Sony appear to be in search of new ways to boost the popularity of movies on their PSP handheld system. With this in mind the company has announced plans to launch The Memory Stick Entertainment Pack, incorporating 1GB and 2GB memory stick Duo options. The pack, which will also work with select Sony cameras and phones, will also include a DVD.
Upon inserting the DVD into your PC, you can input a code provided as part of the pack and unlock one of four films available to choose from: Hitch, SWAT, The Grudge and XXX: State of the Union. Once you've made your selection and attached your Memory Stick Duo-equipped PSP, you'll then be able to transfer the selected flick over to the Memory Stick for watching on the PSP.
Apparently, this unlocking method is the only manner in which to watch the films, but serves as one of Sony's first examples of digital distribution using the PSP. The packs in question will be out in the USA next month for 60 USD and 100 USD respectively, news of a UK pack is hoped for soon.
