Nintendo's resolutions for 2006
News - Fils-Aime fills us in
Industry website Gamasutra.com are today reporting on a rather interesting interview, conducted between online publication CNET and Nintendo's mouthy marketing bigwig Reggie Fils-Aime. In the interview, Fils-Aime describes Nintendo's new year's resolutions, discussing at length the company's desire to move away from the current focus upon technical specifications and ever-crisper visuals, towards greater innovation on the gaming front, as the industry matures. He stated that Ninty would instead focus on breaking new ground, using the Revolution's upcoming 'remote controller' as an example.
Continuing to focus on the Revolution, the successor to the GameCube which is due out this year, Fils-Aime claimed it will cost "less than 300 USD", but would not be drawn when pressed for a more specific release date, instead promising playable games for E3. He also explained how the new Revolution controller might work in a 'standard' videogame, toting a concept for an American Football game in which the on-screen cursor could be used to highlight a player to receive the ball in real-time.
When presented with the idea that the PSP handheld carries more 'buzz' presently than the DS, Fils-Aime disagreed (unsurprisingly), stating: "The fact is, we have a number of not only worldwide but even U.S.-centric million-unit selling games, and Sony doesn't. We have games that are successfully expanding the audience for gaming for DS, and that's not true for Sony. The buzz for the DS is huge and growing and the most anticipated handheld titles are on our platform, not on Sony's."
So there you have it. More on the Revolution, the DS, et al as we get it.
