Half-Life 2 Deathmatch surprise

In a surprise move, Valve Software released a 32mb Half-Life 2 deathmatch download over Steam yesterday, in tandem with their release of the Source engine SDK. Two maps are included, based on portions of the singleplayer game, and allow you to knock fellow deathmatchers left, right and centre using the gravity gun. The game is actually a stand-alone game, separate from the full product, and includes its own bespoke server browser and the like.
Character models available include the Combine and resistance fighter options, and pistols, SMGs and grenades are also an option in addition to the hilarious possibilities of the gravity gun. A Deathmatch Map Making Contest was revealed by Valve at the same time as the download, and a top prize of $5000 is up for grabs with two runners-up prizes of $3000 going. More soon.
