TGS 2004: Future not Solid for Metal Gear series?

News - Konami to wave Snake goodbye?

Word from the Tokyo Games Show over the weekend informs us that this December's Metal Gear Solid 3 will be 'the last in the series', bringing to an end - we assume - Mr Solid Snake's reign as star of all things Metal Gear. The game should therefore conclude much of what preceded, and we can look forward to a few fresh faces in whatever Hideo Kojima deems is best to follow this final instalment.

TGS also threw-up the bizarre news that Konami are including a 'Snake and Monkey' mode in MGS3; homage to Kojima's obsession with Ape Escape, we're told. The newly light-hearted inclusion will see Snake chasing a gaggle of escaped monkeys in comedy fashion, and should certainly provide some comic relief amid the seriousness.

We'll bring you more on this as we get it. Suffice to say that Kojima's latest looks to continue the 'trilogy' admirably. What the future now holds is open to debate, however.
