Spy Hunter movie to be directed by John Woo

Word from the Hollywood Reporter late yesterday informs us of a rather juicy rumour that John Woo could be set to direct a new film based upon Midway's Spy Hunter games series, apparently a deal with Universal is very near.
The film has been at the planning stages from some time, with none-other than The Rock rumoured to be taking the central role as spy hunter Alec Sects, equipped with all manner of high-tech gadgetry and slick cars. The film will apparently be released sometime in 2005, with Midway readying a game-of-the-film to coincide.
John Woo is also rumoured to be in charge of a film based upon the Nintendo Metroid licence - though what impact this new deal would have on this is currently unknown.
