Jagex wins court case against Runescape hackers

News - Landmark ruling puts hackers on the back foot

Jagex has come out on top in court in their lawsuit against the coders behind the iBot hacking software that has plagued Runescape for years.

The iBot software created by Mark and Eric Snellman was one of many bots used in Runescape until they were all blocked by the introduction of their Bot Nuke suite of bot-blocking software introduced in October of last year.

Mark and Eric Snellman were ordered to pay substantial damages to Jagex. A court order was also put in place preventing them from developing or helping to develop botting software to do with any Jagex product as well as talking about Jagex, Runescape or the lawsuit.

They were also ordered to give up all domain names, source code and websites as well as details of customers and those that have developed scripts for iBot and sold or re-sold the scripts.

"The result of this case against the Snellmans should serve as a serious deterrent for anyone who continues to be involved in developing botting software or scripts or even maintaining or supporting those involved," stated Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard emphatically.
