Minecraft pushing Microsoft to change their Xbox Live update policies
News - Regular updates could become a possibility on Xbox Live
4J Studios, the team working on the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft have indicated that Microsoft are working towards providing constant updates.
This would mean that they will be sharpening their updating procedures to allow Xbox 360 games and applications to receive much more regular updates.
Chief technical officer at 4J Studios, Paddy Burns said: "Microsoft knows that to do a similar thing that's on PC where they constantly update it, that's a very difficult thing to do on Xbox because you have to go through the full tests. But, they are quite keen to move towards that - they do see it as the future, so I think we might be the first to do constant updates."
He did say that Xbox developers would probably never get the kind of freedom for patching that PC developers get but Microsoft are working towards something faster than the snail's pace of their current procedures. Burns added: "I don't think it'll ever come to that. I think that there will always be Microsoft testing involved, but the whole turnaround of that testing they're hoping to speed up, so we can maybe roll out very two months. We'll have to see how that goes ... I'm really looking forward to it being updated with patches and new features after it's released."
Constant updates are crucial to a title like Minecraft which is constantly evolving and changing as players explore the game and find glitches, even doing things the developers never realised were possible.
