PS Vita gets a Japanese launch date

News - And some 3G data price plans

Sony has finally committed to a release date for the PlayStation Vita. The only downside is that it is only a Japanese release date at the moment.

The Japanese electronics giant revealed the launch date of its ambitious new handheld games platform during their press conference at this year's Tokyo Games Show.

They also revealed some details of data plans for the 3G model of the Vita. Two plans will be on offer through Japanese mobile provider Docomo. The pre-paid plans will come in two flavours, 20 hours for 980 YEN (around 8 GBP or 12 USD) and 100 hours for 4980 YEN (around 41 GBP or 65 USD).

The PlayStation Vita will hit Japan on December the 17th, just in time for Christmas with the Western releases due some time in the first calendar quarter of 2012.
