Activision: Bungie is the only 'high-quality independent developer' left
News - Conveniently, its the studio we just signed a 10-year contract with.
In a rather large oversight, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick recently asserted that Washington-based Bungie who the game publisher has just recently signed a 10-year deal with is the last remaining high-quality independent developer.
Speaking at the Merrill Lynch Media, Communications and Entertainment conference, CVG quotes the outspoken CEO as saying Bungie [is] a very unusual company. [It is] probably the last remaining high-quality independent developer.
While Activision may not acknowledge them, there are a litany of other triple-A developers still in existence, including Steam platform owner Valve and Gears of War studio Epic Games.
One element of Kotick's statement does ring true, though Bungie is an A-class developer. The studio recently put out the critically acclaimed Halo: Reach.
