New virus of gaming origins

News - Beware the Bagle

New virus of gaming origins New virus of gaming origins

A new virus is currently spreading across the web's email networks, according to a report today on the BBC. The virus, titled Bagle.B, is also known as Alua@mm and Tanx-A - with anti-virus firms speculating that a keen gamer may behind the creation of this latest pest, as the program uses settings linked with Ultima Online, as well as prompting infected PCs to report to a gaming website.

Bagle.B was first spotted on February 17th, and like Mydoom.A before spreads via email address books creating backdoors on host machines. Like this virus, Bagle.B tricks users into launching it as an attachment from infected emails - though security firms concede it is unlikely that this new strain will become as rife as the Microsoft-attacking MyDoom.A.

So watch out for mysterious emails, and update your anti-virus software seems to be the message. Oh, and beware all Ultima Online players too (if you don't already).
