News - Sony offer fact-deluge
The PS2, launched back in 2000, celebrates its ninth birthday this week - Sony revealing that there are now over 140 million consoles installed worldwide.
In honour of this milestone, Sony send along a few factoids about the PS2, revealing that in addition to the 140 million figure, one-in-three US homes owns one of the groundbreaking consoles.
The SOCOM series of online action games has now logged over 530 million man-hours played, while over 500 million software units have been sold for the PS2.
The total list of games is now approaching 10,000, we hear, with nearly 500 developers having created games for the platform.
The PS2 retails for 99 USD stateside; slightly more in Blighty - although you're probably more interested in its sexier sibling the PS3.
