Pachter sees Netflix heading to Wii
News - Could be with us within a year
With Sony Computer Entertainment America having confirmed yesterday that the Netflix movies-on-demand service is on the way to the PS3 and the PSN, we today hear talk from analyst Michael Pachter that Netflix could soon head to the Wii as well.
Netflix was tied exclusively to the Xbox 360 for some time, but Sony's announcement that the service is on the way to the PS3 seemingly sees this deal end - opening up the possibility of Netlfix launching on other platforms.
"We anticipate that a similar arrangement will be announced for the Wii in the next 12 months," Pachter told GI.biz, responding to the news from Sony.
"We believe that the exclusive arrangement limits Netflix's ability to appear on the 'dashboard' for the PS3 or the Wii, but because both devices have open architecture Internet browsers built-in, the solution proposed for the PS3 would likely not violate the terms of Microsoft's exclusivity."
