No cross-over from Final Fantasy XIII to XIV

Speaking in a preview session this afternoon, Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase has revealed that there will be no cross-over between Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIV: Online in terms of characters and plot.
That said, the new game, confirmed by Sony as a PS3 exclusive release for 2010 this morning, will use much of the same technology as XIII. The strengths of the game engine were apparent in the trailer we were shown; a shock announcement given that XIII still remains nearly a year off in Western regions.
Kitase-san revealed that XIV is being developed by an entirely separate development team, and wouldn't be drawn on revealing any more details.
The executive also added that it is unlikely we will see a demo of the game released outside of Japan. More in our full preview from E3.
