Nintendo announce new Super Mario Bros at E3

News - Classic 2.5D look

He's 'done it all', according to US exec Cammie Dunaway, but Mario is on the way back to our screens - Shigeru Miyamoto having crafted a new Super Mario Bros. for the Wii console.

A new way to play Mario has been mustered, apparently, the game going 'social' through the ability to interact with other characters in game. A classic 2D scrolling look is still on offer, albeit enhanced through some 3D effects.

A balance between social and single-player is mooted, characters able to help each other, as well do their own thing, through enhancements like the propeller suit.

The retro look is likely to appeal to hardcore fans, while the way players will need to work together is actually reminiscent of LittleBigPlanet - supporting four players.

New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii will be released this winter.
