PS3 sales rise at Sony
News - But PS2 appears to be falling away at last
Sony have revealed their 2008 financial year results, revealing to us that PS3 sales have risen 10 percent over 2007 levels, sales of the console rising to over 10 million units, from 9.12 million the year before.
The PS2 console, meanwhile, really does seem to be on its last legs, sales dropping 42 percent to under eight million units. PSP sales, meanwhile, were up a slight 2 percent at 14.11 million.
While the PS3 hardware picture is improving, the software picture has well and truly improved, Sony confirming game sales up 79 percent to 103.7 million units. PSP software sales sadly dropped 9 percent, the PS2 losing a whopping 50 percent.
Despite PS3 sales rising, Sony PlayStation revenues were down a comfortable 18 percent compared to 2007, something the hardware maker attributed to big fluctuations in currencies last year. Losses were still half those of the previous year however, owing in the main to decreasing PS3 production costs.
