Eminem nearly starred in "blockbuster" GTA flick
News - Major film deal fell through
Interesting news reaches us this afternoon with word that a major Hollywood studio was very nearly lined-up to back an official Grand Theft Auto film, which was set to star rapper Eminem in the lead role.
The film would have been a heavily-backed blockbuster by the sound of things (no Uwe Boll here), and Variety reckon that the project was very nearly a "done deal", Eminem a possible as the film's star. Apparently, the deal fell through at the last minute, according to the Cut Scene blog.
"I'm told Take 2 couldn't finalize terms with the studio, though I'm not sure if it was a purely financial issue or if, in the end, the publisher got cold feet about giving away rights to its baby," the blog reveals.
Of course, if GTA IV proves the success its expected to be this April it seems likely that Rockstar will look to revive any film project now on the back-burner. More idle gossip as we get it, in the meantime.
